Francisco van Benthum 2010 A/W SEASON THEME
『 TSAR 』
TSAR is the title of Francisco Van Benthum's Autumn Winter 2010-2011 collection.
For this season, van Benthum took inspiration from Russian and Slavic folklore: historical
images of imperial Russia, Tsars and Slavic traditional clothes are translated into a poetic
and contemporary collection.
Within this collection, van Benthum continues to experiment with shape and construction.
The emphasis is on volume and proportion: oversized, round silhouettes and a come back
of the high waist that he intoduced in his Spring Summer 2010 collection. A series of shirts
and tops are developped by using traditional moulage techniques.
TSAR / AW10-11 is a colourful collection with a folkloristic atmosphere that includes suits,
coats, jackets, knitwear, pants, shirts and tops. Different traditional handcrafts are used for
the execution of some of the pieces, such as patchwork and embroidery.
Used fabrics are luxurious: cashmere loden wools, flannels, fine cotton poplins, silks, waxed
cotton, soft lurex shirtings and silk and cashmere for light knits.
The colours range from shades of brown, gold, beige, cream, black, grey to orange and red.
Francisco van Benthum is showing in Paris for the fourth time in a row.
With international sales points, Francisco van Benthum is currently developing 3 capsule
collections alongside : a range of suits and shirts under the name VAN BENTHUM, a
fashionforward collection named FVB and a footwear collection. These collections will
be presented at showroom Tent this season as well. His first own concept store 'NL = New
Luxury' was opened in January 2008 in Amsterdam.

His vision as a designer is clearly seen in his elegant men’s collections that take the traditional menswear wardrobe as a starting point. Within the outline of the traditional menswear silhouette Van Benthum shifts proportions and adds altered elements based on male stereotypes.
Both press and buyers showed a strong interest in Van Benthum’s previous presentations. His fully featured collections including formal and casual wear and a range of accessories and shoes have been warmly received.
With many sales points in The Netherlands Francisco van Benthum is currently developing his label on an international level. His first own concept store ‘NL = New Luxury’ was opened in January 2008 in Amsterdam.
