CY CHOI 2010 A/W SEASON THEME 『 INTERJECT 』
2010 F/W collection is the second since CY CHOI namesake collection launched in Jun, 2009.
INTERJECT... is the story of 2010f/w CY CHOI collection.
It is unexpected breaking in the familiar routines, which we could feel strange and incline to center on it, like the 'Defamiliarization', an artistic technique what Russian formal literature theorist named Shklovsky, V invented.
It makes us rethink of the standardized things with our untried and infinite potentiality of idea and finally create new meaning.
This collection emphasizes on time-space and its simultaneity that are composed of well-known design elements with his young eye.
Designer is trying to show the novel and aesthetic clothing like structural and spatial fine arts.
The modest jackets & trousers are being interrupted by its partially cut-outted and 3 dimensional big pockets inspired by military and work style.
The big utility pockets are interpreted with their balanced colours and fabrics, so actual look is firm, reasonable, and modest and make conservative silhouettes.
It is the most novel and interesting part of the whole collection.
They interject jackets, coats, pea coats, vest and pants with different dimensions.
Like jigsaw puzzles, we often sees them on jackets and coats coexisting of bilateral symmetry silhouette and asymmetric lines and harmonizing reciprocally.
Fabrics are also used in the way of coexisting of various textures; essential fabrics vs interjected one.
The combination of finest wool, shiny satin and lambskin proportionates properly, so it looks luxurious and harmonious on shirts and jackets.
Melange and twill wool, soft and heavyweight fabric combine and build uneven space that gives us visual and tactile satisfaction and become sophisticated space.
Bold plaid, stripe pattern with flat fabrics form invisible space, they bring about "2 in 1" effect and simultaneously trompe l'oeil effect on shirts, Jackets, and vest that Cy Choi especially devotes.
Leather that partially uses for colours to match vitalizes all primary fabrics such as wool and cotton.
The pants made of 13.5 oz natural indigo selvedge and broken twill denims counterpoint with tops. But they, in the styling, make effortless but smart look and a boy but a man image.
Preferring hand made printing graphics, Designer uses a stick seemed to be thrown unexpectedly, and help the comprehension of the concept.
Blowy hairs in contrasting with moderate stylings reminds a sudden breeze.
Achromatic and natural colours dominate the collection and mismatch a little to not to be so serious and to approve freshness and unfamiliarity.
Vivid green corresponds the flow of collection and allows it bright and vivacious.
It is enough to imagine the new gentleman told by Cy Choi through this collection composed of structure and space, the result of the new assembles of design factors.

Chul Yong Choi
Chul-Yong CHOI was born in 1972.
He started to study fine art and fashion design at the Hongik University in Seoul and continued fashion design at Domus Academy in Milan Italy.
Right after his graduation he had lived in Milan and worked as a fashion designer and art director both in Italy and Korea.
During this period he launched many new lines and built up the companies's brand identity.
Moreover he had big interest on communication part so that he made unconventional ideas for visual communication.
Finally he launched his namesake brand CY CHOI for menswear in Paris 2009.
In the CY CHOI it is melted his values that agonizes the possibility of transformation between art and design and seeks after visualizing the invisibleness with his own mimesis from the past.
Brand philosophy
Boundary; between this and that
The boundary is to differentiate the objects from two exclusive lines. But in a different viewpoint this thin lines being microscopically disassembled from both attribution accomplish various layers. Like a countless spectrum with black and white boundary. Potential disassembled line is no longer exclusive attribute but symmetrize and harmonize. Standing above the boundary contiguity of an object we will focus on the positive aspects.
