Q1. Please outline your concept for SS11 and the reasons behind it.
The discovery against logical reality which is familiar with our customary truth gives us unconventional impression and the novelty.
This changes our ordinary life. When it is positive, we skim off the prejudice and perceive it as a truth. This challenge of the truth tries a door to the infinite possibility of communication which broadens a wide range of the truth and open a new prospect.
11root2 is symbolic of the idea of this season.
It was the epoch-making discovery about that time the integer was the absolute truth for centuries. It approved the truth is progressive and showed the possibility of endless vibration.
The most basic figure made of segment lines is a triangle, and it is used 11root2 to measure the area from triangle.
For instant, it is used to survey a new extent of between a tree and its shadow, or to measure a adjacent side of Pyramid when we know the hypotenuse and opposite side of it. We can also figure out the area of tetragon adjacent to the triangle.
It would be so for the clothes. Generally the segment lines gather and create tiny and huge spaces and complete the clothes which we commonly called.
However in the collection we've been trying to figure out unfamiliarity and unusual ability from the basic design factors and make a new spaces and finally give a new 'signifier' to the new extent made. This new interpretation takes notice of the possibility of constant changes.
Q2. For this season, what fabrics are you paying attention to?
The mix of heterogeneous fabrics such as cotton, cool wool, linen, technical fabric...
It contributes to the various height of space and modernistic viewpoint.
Q3. What role does color play in your SS11 collection?
It is based on the colors seen on the contemporary art; Black, Cream white, Gray shades, Neutral Beige, Blue shades.
Q4. Please choose 3 key items from the collection and outline why you chose
them.
Jackets, Outer wears_ between pocket and its space have different fabrics and colors.
It maximizes the hidden space so that it breaks our general sights.
Different color effect of Shirt, Jeans, T-shirt creates new spaces and distance and deviates flatness eventually.
Q5. Please tell us what things are important to you when thinking of a new
design.
Taking notice of its boundary.

Designer
Chul Yong Choi
Chul-Yong CHOI was born in 1972.
He started to study fine art and fashion design at the Hongik University in Seoul and continued fashion design at Domus Academy in Milan Italy.
Right after his graduation he had lived in Milan and worked as a fashion designer and art director both in Italy and Korea.
During this period he launched many new lines and built up the companies's brand identity.
Moreover he had big interest on communication part so that he made unconventional ideas for visual communication.
Finally he launched his namesake brand CY CHOI for menswear in Paris 2009.
In the CY CHOI it is melted his values that agonizes the possibility of transformation between art and design and seeks after visualizing the invisibleness with his own mimesis from the past.
Brand philosophy
Boundary; between this and that
The boundary is to differentiate the objects from two exclusive lines. But in a different viewpoint this thin lines being microscopically disassembled from both attribution accomplish various layers. Like a countless spectrum with black and white boundary. Potential disassembled line is no longer exclusive attribute but symmetrize and harmonize. Standing above the boundary contiguity of an object we will focus on the positive aspects.
