For the Spring Summer 2011 season, the artistic director Youn Chong Bak takes the work of the iconoclastic architect Gaudí as a resonance chamber, as unusual as it is fascinating.

Taken by a fiery passion, Youn Chong Bak expresses her usual poetry on this summer collection by privileging the colour ambiance, which derives from the aquatic and plant universe. Deep navy blues and seaweed greens brush against the cloudy softness of natural coral and almond green; the meanders of pastel and mineral colours are played off by brick-red, violet or bronze reflections.

Moderate reassuring tones, galvanized by washed, faded, polished iridescent or metallic fabrics. Knitwear is pistol painted to give a washed and used effect; poplins are in overdyed colours; leathers are washed as in the blue-green suede perfecto.

Youn Chong Bak creates pieces which have the potential of becoming essential basics. The silhouette is purified, tonic, graphic. Wholly in keeping with a history where legend meets the technical exploit; top stitched double lapel, cut lapel, buttoned rounded pocket. With talent, she strews the tailored details thus signing the reconciliation between the usual and the exceptional.

Subtle details ornament the ensemble of pieces of the season: organic forms in satin or alcantara on the lapels; geometrical surfaces on the intarsia knitwear; topstitching giving a mosaic effect on the shirts ... a direct reference to the roof of the Casa Batlló.

The collection of shirts distinguishes itself by its incredible design and graphic elegance, thanks to the cuts of cuffs and collars. Details are numerous: flaps buttoned on shoulders, hitchable sleeves, bicolored buttoned plackets, diagonally pleated bib for evening shirts ...

The Spring Summer 2011 collection is also marked by the creation of a "jean couture". Unique in its kind, it resumes the codes of tailoring in the smallest of detail. An original and remarkable way of paying tribute to the heritage of the House of Smalto.

For the outdoor informal garments the materials were carefully chosen to give a sporty chic look: technical fabrics, made iridescent with metallic thread, ultra light synthetic fabrics in a silky touch oxygenated by clear colors. All is declined on raincoats, parkas, safari jackets and windbreakers

Promoted to the position of creative director she embodies the House’s 3rd generation of designers.Youn Chong represents concentrated energy and determination.
